Arrangement for Christina Stuermer

Austrian singing sensation Christina Stuermer is presently on tour supporting her new CD release "laut-los" (something like "si-lent" in English but it's a more effective play on words in German), an unplugged album that transports the audience into her virtual living room for the concert experience. Included on the album is an acoustic version of her biggest hit to date, "Engel fliegen einsam" (loosely translates to "Angels Fly Alone") which received a swing treatment on the CD.  During the recording sessions, Jon Welch was asked to provide a horn arrangement for the title to add to its authenticity and he decided on a small, "West Coast" jazz sound for the song.  This translated to lots of lush harmonies and close voicings within the horn section which manage to sit nicely on top of the soft and swinging playback.  The arrangement was capably performed by Jon's Matterhorns horn section featuring Ingolf Burkhardt on trumpet, Fiete Felsch on saxophone and Jon on trombone.  "It was the icing on the cake for the title," said producer Thorsten Broetzmann.  Thanks to Christina for asking us to perform on her album!
