Zoe Sings for the "Kindernothilfe"
Wednesday, 12 March 2008

We got a panicked call last week from an agency desperately looking for a 8-10 year old child in Germany who could sing English without an accent.  The project was a charity spot for the German "Kindernothilfe ", one of the largest Christian Children's Funds in Europe that helps over 300,000 underprivileged children in 27 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America.

As we speak English at home here in Hamburg, I modestly suggested our daughter Zoe, although only 7, might be qualified.  Although she has had no formal music training up to this point, she agreed to give it a try.

At the session, she stepped confidently up to the mike and sang a heart-warming rendition of the Jewel Akens' hit "The Birds and the Bees" which the agency was thrilled with.  It wasn't such an easy task for a 7 year old as some voice characterization was required at the end and she had to "act" out the appropriate part.

She did it with such aplomb that we're starting to think that acting is where she might be headed in the future!  As soon as the spot is released we'll post it so you can judge for yourself.  Watch out for the twist in the film, though; that's when the real message comes across!
